Are there any risks?

If you are undergoing surgery for breast cancer then there are no physical risks in collecting tissue for the tissue bank that are additional to the risks of your operation. Only tissue that is removed for your treatment will be entered into the tissue bank. No additional tissue will be taken during your surgery.

If you are undergoing a biopsy as a part of your normal clinical care then we would like to collect additional material for the tissue bank with your permission. This will be performed at the same time as your biopsy for diagnosis and it is not an additional procedure. This will be done in consultation with your treatment physicians.

Collection of a blood sample can sometimes cause local pain and bruising.

All procedures are carried out by qualified staff.
